About Bewdley String Ensemble

The Bewdley String Ensemble was formed ten years ago by violinist Rachel Greenwood. Its aim is to encourage string players to improve their musicianship through studying together in a relaxed but hard-working training orchestra.

The minimum standard is about 'Grade 4'. For advanced students there is the opportunity to play concerto movements and to conduct.
The Leader for this season is Jonathon Clymo. Jonathon attends King Edward VI College, Stourbridge, where he is studying Science for A-level. He is a member of the Staffordshire School for Talented Young Musicians and plays in the Cannock Music Centre Symphony Orchestra and the Staffordshire Youth Orchestra. He also plays piano, viola and percussion !

Past members of Bewdley String Ensemble - Charlotte Adams, Helen Ferrier, Letty Stott - have achieved notable success. Helen won a Trinity College Exhibition for her 'Performer's Certificate' on violin (1995) and Charlotte has gained a place at York to read music. Letty and Peter Holder play in the National Children's Orchestra. Two of our current players, Sara Weaver and Charlotte Taylor also play there.

Bewdley String Ensemble has studied a wide range of music. This includes arrangements which have been specially made for the group by Rachel and published in the Corda Music Series.

New members are very welcome, though places are limited. Meetings take place on Wednesdays at Wribbenhall Parish Rooms. The fee is £8.00 for four meetings. Informal concerts are held for charitable causes - including the Worldwide Fund for Nature.
