Jeremy Patterson          Hon FBC, Birmingham Festival Choral Society - Music Director
On graduating from the former Birmingham School of Music, Jeremy taught in both primary and secondary schools before his appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Music Education at the City of Birmingham Polytechnic, being Course Director of the Postgraduate as well as In-Service courses, until he took early retirement in 1986.

Jeremy was a violin/viola player in the Midland Youth Orchestra, and performed as a professional free-lance player in orchestras and Chamber Music groups.
He conducted the Bromsgrove String Orchestra from 1966 to 1972 during which time his Bromsgrove Festival concerts became noteworthy for the inclusion of 20th century music.

Jeremy has trained and conducted a wide variety of choirs over a period of 40 years.
He was appointed Music Director of Birmingham Festival Choral Society in 1969, and throughout the past thirty-one years he has developed the BFCS historic policy in promoting contemporary music.
He has premiered thirteen works by a number of British composers, of which nine were commissioned by him, and he has given the second and third performances of new music by, for example, BFCS Patrons John Joubert and Elis Pehkonen.

In addition to his work for BFCS, Jeremy adjudicates regionally and nationally for Music for Youth, and throughout the UK for every Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition since it began in 1984.
For many years Jeremy was an 'A' Level Music Examiner for the 'Performing' module.

In 1993 the University of Central England in Birmingham conferred upon him the honorary award of Fellowship of Birmingham Conservatoire in recognition of his services to music.
